Circulating Tank 2, Restoration Ludwig Leo
Berlin/2014 – 2016
Circulating Tank 2 by Ludwig Leo is part of the former experimental station for hydraulic engineering and shipbuilding of the TU Berlin and is located prominently and largely visible on the Schleuseninsel close to the Strasse des 17. Juni. After restoration the TU Berlin will continue to use the building in accordance with its original purpose. The circulating tank enables currents experiments for maritime questions in the field of independent research on one hand and encourages interdisciplinary cooperation with the Universität der Künste (UdK) on the other. Scientific use, preservation and necessary modernisation of technical equipment go along with an opening to a broader audience. As one of the few carried out pieces of the rather unknown Ludwig Leo, the circulating tank is an important testimonial of his work. Repairing of the circulating tank is also meant to contribute to the popularisation of the extraordinary legacy and the methodical thinking of this avant-garde architect.
